Ricky Evans has been one of the most influential young voices in Tasmanian wine since starting Two Tonne Tasmania in 2013 with a single Pinot Noir. He now offers a range of small-batch sub-regional wines that shine a light on the meticulously tended vineyards of trusted growers across the island, as well as on the vineyards he manages himself in Tamar Valley. His style is flavoursome and generous, but above all the aim is for a pure expression of each variety and vineyard.
The TMV wines are Ricky’s regional interpretation of a given vintage and the Tamar Valley, a 50km stretch along the river that begins south of Launceston and ends at the Low Head lighthouse overlooking the Bass Strait. The 2025 TMV Chardonnay blends fruit from five vineyards, each one picked and processed at the optimal time for the site.
The 2025 vintage in the Tamar Valley was warm and dry, but the region was spared from extreme heat days. After good fruit set during the warm spring, the region harvested healthy and generous crops, with concentrated flavours and excellent natural acidity across all varieties.
Fresh and aromatic, the wine opens with citrus and floral notes among aromas of ripe, white-fleshed fruit and a light sprinkling of oatmeal and almonds. The harmonious palate is textural and focused, with generous flavours carried by a clear line of acidity.
This is a great example of Tamar Valley Chardonnay that drinks well on release but will be equally delicious over several years. Open to enjoy with vegetable tempura or Shandong style stir-fried scallops with leek.
