From the maritime vineyards of southern Margaret River comes a Chardonnay that captures the pristine, ocean influenced edge of the region. Voyager Estate was established in 1978 by Michael Wright, who planted vineyards on classic gravelly loam soils over clay, perfectly suited to Bordeaux varieties and Chardonnay alike. Today the estate is owned by Alexandra Burt and remains deeply committed to certified organic viticulture, with winemaker Tim Shand guiding a style that balances precision, texture and regional identity. The Coastal range reflects fruit grown under strong Indian Ocean influence, where cool sea breezes moderate ripening and preserve natural acidity.
Pale straw with a bright green hue, the aromatics are lifted and refined. Lemon zest, white peach and nectarine lead, followed by grapefruit pith, subtle cashew and a gentle saline note that speaks clearly of its coastal origin. There is a delicate flinty edge adding complexity without heaviness.
On the palate it is medium bodied and beautifully composed. Citrus and stone fruit glide across a vibrant backbone of natural acidity, while thoughtful oak and lees work add texture and shape rather than weight. The balance between freshness and creaminess is seamless, finishing long and clean with lingering notes of lemon curd and toasted almond. It is modern Margaret River Chardonnay with clarity, energy and poise.
Pair with grilled scallops, lobster with herb butter, roast chicken with thyme or creamy mushroom risotto. Delicious now for its brightness and balance, it will cellar confidently for eight to twelve years, developing further nutty complexity and layered depth.
