From the cool river valley slopes south of Hobart comes a Chardonnay that captures the freshness and vitality of biodynamic Tasmania. Primavera, meaning spring, reflects the lively, early picked energy of this cuvée and the Lubiana family’s deep commitment to site expression. Established in 1990 by Stefano and Monique Lubiana, the estate became one of Australia’s first certified biodynamic vineyards, farming without synthetic inputs and focusing on soil balance and biodiversity. The Derwent Valley’s long daylight hours, cool nights and sandstone influenced soils shape Chardonnay with clarity, tension and natural acidity.
Pale straw with bright green hues, the aromatics are lifted and precise. Lemon zest, green apple and white peach lead, followed by delicate citrus blossom and a fine flinty nuance. There is a subtle mineral edge that hints at the stony soils and cool climate conditions.
On the palate it is medium bodied, crisp and beautifully balanced. Citrus and orchard fruit glide across a line of vibrant acidity, supported by gentle lees texture that adds depth without heaviness. Oak influence is restrained, allowing purity and freshness to take centre stage. The finish is long, clean and lightly saline, echoing lemon curd and crushed stone.
Pair with freshly shucked oysters, grilled prawns, roast chicken with herbs or creamy seafood pasta. Designed to be enjoyed for its youthful brightness, it will also cellar confidently for five to eight years, developing subtle nutty complexity while retaining its freshness.
