Crisp, saline and textural white with notes of green orchard fruit and fresh kitchen herbs
Garganega is one of Italy’s most important white varieties and notable as the premium grape of the Soave region. This wine comes from the Mt Crawford Vineyard in the southern, elevated reaches of the Barossa Valley, with vines standing in shallow loam over red clay subsoils. The fruit was de-stemmed, the pressed juice cold settled and racked clean before it was fermented in stainless steel and bottled early for a fresh expression of the variety.
This a fresh, vibrant white that opens with white peach and green pear aromas with saline and herbal notes in the folds. These spill into a light- to medium-bodied palate that is crisp and textured, with slatey acidity keeping things in check throughout.
Great as an aperitif, this would also pair well with a simple grilled white fish or lighter seafood and vegetable pasta.
About this producer
Hentley Farm was established in 1997 by Keith and Alison Hentschke in the rolling hills of Greenock Creek in the western reaches of the Barossa. Their 150-hectare property sits on a diverse range of soils that coupled with the varying orientations of the land gives them a rich tapestry of fruit styles from their two vineyard sites. Work at the winery has been led by winemaker Andrew Quin since 2008.
