2026 Murdoch Hill Sauvignon Blanc, Adelaide Hills

This is the latest release of Murdoch Hill’s Sauvignon Blanc, with the previous 2025 vintage rated 95 points by Katrina Butler and Erin Larkin (for Halliday Wine Companion and The Wine Advocate).

We’ll add our tasting notes for this wine soon. In the meantime, here’s what winemaker Michael Downer himself sees in a glass of the 2026:

“The cool, extended 2026 growing season has produced a Sauvignon Blanc of purity, detail and freshness. Aromas of lime zest, grapefruit and white nectarine are complemented by subtle notes of fresh herbs and flowering citrus. The palate is vibrant and finely textured, balancing bright fruit intensity with crisp natural acidity. Slow ripening through the cool vintage has delivered excellent flavour development and precision, while maintaining freshness and length. A refined Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc that is both expressive and elegant.”

About this producer

The Downer family has farmed in the Adelaide Hills since 1939. Today, third generation brothers Michael, Andrew and Henry are looking after their two Murdoch Hill vineyards, the 20-hectare Oakbank site planted in 1998 and the more recently acquired 8.5-hectare Lenswood site planted in 1989. Additional fruit is sourced from likeminded growers across cooler parts of the region.
