Base 21. Disg. Jun 25
Wiry and saline, the NV (2021) Extra Brut Complantée Grand Cru is classic Agrapart all the way. As a reminder, the Complantée is a blend of Pinot Noir, Meunier, Pinot Blanc, Arbane, Petit Meslier and Chardonnay. Readers who like vibrant, floral Champagnes will adore this. Tense and sculpted to the core , the Complantée is so expressive in this tasting. Citrus oil, chalk, mint, white pepper and crushed rocks bristle with energy. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: June 2025; multiple disgorgements throughout the year.

Pascal Agrapart is one of Champagne's most admired grower producers, renowned for his meticulous vineyard work and an extraordinary ability to express the character of the Côte des Blancs. Based in Avize, the Agrapart family has cultivated vines since the nineteenth century. Complantée is one of the estate's most fascinating creations, challenging the idea that great Champagne must be made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir alone.
The name refers to the traditional practice of planting different grape varieties together in the same vineyard. This remarkable Grand Cru cuvée combines six permitted Champagne varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc, Arbane and Petit Meslier. Grown together in Avize, they create a wonderfully individual expression of the region's chalky soils. The June 2025 disgorgement has given the wine additional time on lees, contributing depth and savoury complexity.
Bright pale gold with a delicate, persistent mousse. Ripe pear, yellow apple and preserved lemon mingle with white flowers, toasted sourdough, fresh almond and a hint of wild herbs. The palate is wonderfully textured, with vibrant citrus acidity, fine bubbles and an intriguing combination of orchard fruit, savoury spice and chalky minerality. A gentle touch of ginger and sea salt carries through a long, dry, beautifully distinctive finish.
Try it with grilled cuttlefish and lemon, steamed crab with ginger and coriander, or crispy Jerusalem artichokes with hazelnut and sage. Its unusual depth and savoury character would also be magnificent alongside a delicate seafood terrine.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2035. Already fascinating, with the freshness and complexity to reward further ageing.
