With only a very limited number of 700ml demijohns produced for the world, Tesseron’s Royal Blend is as rare as it is imperial. It was commissioned by one of Europe’s royal families (whose identity remains a secret). The blend is in fact a slightly younger version of the (even older and even rarer) Extrême. It comes from a selection of some fifty Grande Champagne Cognacs from the Tesseron family’s ancient Paradis collection, chosen specifically by Tesseron’s long-standing (now retired) maître de chai Jacky Martial, for their exceptional fruity and floral aromas. All components are between 50 and 100 years of age. The blend spends the first two months in new Limousin oak before going on to age for many years in oak tierçons. The result is a sumptuous, multi-layered, implausibly complex Brandy that is certainly one of the most incredible spirits we have tasted. It’s bottled in mouth-blown glass demijohns, commissioned from a French master glassblower, that are faithful (much smaller) replicas of the ones found in the family’s treasured cellar.
