All Cullen Wines are grown on a certified Biodynamic, Carbon Neutral and naturally powered estate. Grapes are harvested by hand on fruit and flower days according to the astrological calendar. The wines have no additions of yeast, acid or malolactic culture, and are in this sense natural wines which express the place and land on which they are grown, the vintage and the people.
The grapes for this wine were sourced from the Mangan Vineyard, Margaret River. The 21 hectare vineyard, which is owned and managed by Rick Cullen, is dry farmed and maintained using a biodynamic approach to viticulture. Soils are old, granite and gravely sandy loam, overlaying lateric subsoils. Canes were cut on one hectare of Semillon vines in order to ripen the fruit for a late harvest style of wine. The grapes were hand-picked approximately two months later than the grapes for the dry wines.
Bright, golden in colour, the nose has a complex bouquet of white flowers, orange marmalade, fig and nectarine. The palate is textured and concentrated, with flavours of oranges, lemons, papaya, honey and bees wax. A wine of great length and persistence.
