2015 Domaine Jean-Marc Bouley Pommard, Cote de Beaune, bright forest berry fruits, entwines with crushed violet and rose petals. Burst of spice mix with cherry and a touch of mulberry. Tannin is well structured and held nicely with a fine cloak of oak. Drinking well now and will continue to develop. Curl up with a glass of this little beauty and a bowl of coq au vin.
From father to son through numerous generations, the Bouley family has cultivated vineyards in Volnay. In the last century, from 1919, François Bouley manages the family estate. Christian succeeded him in 1948. Jean-Marc created his own Domain in 1974, to which his father’s vineyards were added in 1984.
In 2002, Thomas joined the Domain and took over the management in 2012.
His main objective is to make Bouley one of the great Domains in Volnay.
The 2015 Pommard Village comes from vines located on wind-exposed soils at high altitude. It has a rather austere bouquet at the moment with cold stone and leafy black fruit. I would have liked to see more vigor. The palate is fresh and structured on the entry, again quite austere and you feel the tension and chalkiness of the soils. It is not a wine for everyone, but people who love Pommard and want to feel the soils will adore it.
