This has a dusty, minerally nose with aromas of dried cherries, pomegranate skin, red licorice and hints of cedar and moist earth. Broad and meaty on the palate, it is already nicely developed and velvety, with a medium to full body and silky, textural tannins filling the mouth. Smooth and lingering. Drink or hold.
94 points James Suckling
The Moscone family have been farming the hills of Monforte d'Alba for generations, with a deep commitment to expressing the individuality of Piedmont's finest vineyards. Their philosophy combines traditional respect for Nebbiolo with thoughtful modern winemaking, producing Barolos that balance power, elegance and remarkable ageing potential.
Bussia is one of Barolo's most celebrated crus, a vast amphitheatre of limestone and clay soils that consistently produces wines of structure, perfume and longevity. The outstanding 2016 vintage ranks among the greatest of the modern era, allowing Nebbiolo to achieve extraordinary concentration while preserving freshness, precision and finesse.
The colour is a brilliant garnet red with youthful ruby highlights. Aromas of rose petals, red cherry and wild strawberry unfold alongside orange peel, liquorice and sweet spice. As the wine opens, layers of tar, dried herbs and earthy complexity emerge, adding depth and intrigue. The palate is beautifully structured, combining vibrant red fruit with refined tannins and bright acidity, finishing long, savoury and wonderfully balanced.
Magnificent with white truffle risotto, braised beef cheeks, slow cooked lamb shoulder or porcini mushroom pappardelle. Drinking superbly with a decant today while possessing the pedigree to evolve gracefully for another fifteen to twenty years.
