A lot of transparency in this Barolo, with delicate strawberries, cinnamon, blood oranges and sweet violets on the nose. Tight and firm on the palate with dusty tannins, more bony than supple, medium body and a refreshing finish. Try after 2025.
92 points James Suckling
The Viberti family have been crafting Barolo from their historic farmhouse at Vergne, above the village of Barolo, since the early twentieth century. Today Claudio Viberti continues the family's tradition of producing wines that combine classic Nebbiolo character with an elegant, approachable style, making the estate one of Piedmont's most respected names.
Buon Padre, meaning "Good Father", is the estate's flagship Barolo, blending fruit from several outstanding vineyards across the appellation. By combining sites from Barolo, Monforte d'Alba and surrounding communes, Viberti creates a wine that captures the perfume, structure and complexity of the region while remaining beautifully balanced and expressive.
The colour is a brilliant garnet red with youthful ruby reflections. Aromas of rose petals, red cherry and wild strawberry are layered with orange peel, liquorice, dried herbs and sweet spice. The palate is refined and beautifully structured, combining vibrant red fruits with silky tannins and fresh acidity. Notes of tar, cedar and earthy complexity emerge with time in the glass, while the finish is long, savoury and classically Barolo.
A superb match for white truffle risotto, braised beef cheeks, slow roasted lamb shoulder or porcini mushroom pappardelle. Enjoy with a decant today or cellar confidently through the 2040s as the wine develops further complexity and finesse.
