The shiraz vines here were planted in the Eden Valley in the early part of last century, and the wine is an excellent example of the traditional Barossa style done really well. Deep crimson with aromas of rich blackberry, black cherry and dark plum fruits with hints of cedar, brown spices, mace, sage, dark chocolate, pastis and earth. The fruit density and flow are velvety smooth and show great finesse, oak apparent but simpatico with the fruit, tannins firm yet supple and a finish that rides on nicely. A graceful, fruit-rich and balanced Eden Valley shiraz.

Eden Valley has long been a treasure trove for finely structured Shiraz and Gibson’s Australian Old Vine Collection taps directly into that heritage. Founded by the late Rob Gibson, a Barossa icon known for his deep understanding of old vine vineyards, the winery continues to champion fruit from mature sites that deliver both intensity and elegance. The cooler elevations and ancient soils of Eden Valley shape Shiraz with aromatic lift, savoury spice and natural acidity, creating a style that feels more poised and detailed than its warmer valley floor counterparts.
Deep crimson with purple depth, the wine opens with rich aromas of blackberry, dark plum and mulberry layered alongside cracked pepper, star anise and hints of cedar and dark chocolate. There is a beautifully savoury undertone that builds with air. The palate is full yet finely balanced, flowing with dark berry fruit and subtle oak spice before tightening into firm, velvety tannins. Notes of liquorice, graphite and warm earth add dimension, while fresh acidity keeps the finish long, structured and quietly powerful.
This is the sort of Shiraz that calls for hearty food and unhurried evenings. Slow braised lamb shoulder, chargrilled ribeye, venison pie or roasted root vegetables with thyme will all feel perfectly matched. Drinking impressively now with a generous decant, yet capable of evolving over ten to fifteen years as layers of leather, dried spice and game begin to emerge. A classic Eden Valley expression that honours the legacy of Rob Gibson and the enduring magic of Australian old vine Shiraz.
