From the cool, maritime vineyards of northern Tasmania comes a sparkling wine that reflects both European heritage and Tasmanian precision. Kreglinger Wine Estates was established in Tasmania by the Belgian Kreglinger family, whose wine history dates back to 1797. Drawn to Pipers Brook and the broader Pipers River region for its Champagne like climate, the family invested in traditional method sparkling production with a clear focus on finesse and longevity. The 2019 Brut is crafted from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grown in these cool, windswept vineyards, where long daylight hours and naturally high acidity create ideal conditions for refined sparkling wine.
Pale straw in colour with brilliant clarity and a fine, persistent bead, the aromatics are elegant and layered. Green apple, lemon zest and white peach rise from the glass, joined by hints of brioche, almond and subtle pastry notes from extended lees maturation. There is a clean mineral lift that reflects the region’s cool climate and pristine environment.
On the palate it is dry, vibrant and beautifully structured. Crisp citrus and orchard fruit glide across a creamy, finely textured mousse, supported by bright natural acidity that gives drive and length. Subtle toasty nuances add depth without overpowering freshness. The finish is long, clean and refreshing, lingering with lemon peel and gentle nuttiness.
Pair with freshly shucked oysters, tempura prawns, smoked salmon, roast chicken or soft cheeses. While delicious now for its brightness and balance, it will cellar confidently for five to eight years, developing further complexity and savoury depth.
