Armand Heitz is one of Burgundy's thoughtful modern growers, having taken over his family's vineyards in the Côte de Beaune and developed a distinctive approach centred on healthy soils, biodiversity and minimal intervention in the cellar. His wines have attracted considerable attention for their purity and individual character. Murgers des Dents de Chien is one of Saint-Aubin's most celebrated Premier Cru vineyards, producing Chardonnay of remarkable finesse and mineral intensity.
Situated high on the slopes above Puligny-Montrachet, close to the famous Grand Cru vineyards, Murgers des Dents de Chien takes its name from the piles of limestone rocks scattered across the hillside. The cool 2021 vintage produced particularly fresh, finely structured whites, with the vineyard's rocky soils contributing a pronounced mineral character.
Pale straw yellow with delicate green highlights. Lemon zest, crisp pear and white peach mingle with white flowers, fresh almond and crushed limestone. The palate is taut and beautifully defined, with vibrant citrus acidity, fine texture and a lovely sense of restraint. Subtle notes of hazelnut, wet stone and gentle spice carry through a long, saline finish.
Try it with steamed King George whiting and ginger, grilled abalone with lemon and parsley, or a delicate leek and ricotta soufflé. Its freshness and mineral intensity also make it a wonderful match for freshly shucked oysters and fine seafood dishes.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2036. A beautifully structured Premier Cru that should gain further depth and complexity over the next decade.
