Ferdinando Principiano is one of Barolo's leading advocates for traditional, organic viticulture, producing wines that place vineyard expression ahead of winemaking intervention. From his family estate in Monforte d'Alba, Principiano has earned worldwide acclaim for crafting Nebbiolo of purity, finesse and remarkable transparency, allowing each site to reveal its unique personality.
This Barolo is sourced from organically farmed vineyards in the celebrated commune of Serralunga d'Alba, an area renowned for producing some of the region's most structured and ageworthy wines. The limestone rich marl soils and cooler exposures give Nebbiolo its unmistakable combination of perfume, firm tannins and mineral precision, creating a Barolo built for both immediate fascination and long term cellaring.
The colour is a brilliant garnet with youthful ruby highlights. Aromas of rose petals, red cherry and wild strawberry unfold alongside orange peel, liquorice and sweet spice. As the wine opens, layers of tar, dried herbs and crushed stone emerge, adding complexity and depth. The palate is beautifully focused, combining vibrant red fruit with finely woven tannins and bright acidity, finishing long, savoury and classically Serralunga in character.
Magnificent with braised beef cheeks, white truffle risotto, slow roasted lamb shoulder or porcini mushroom pappardelle. While immensely enjoyable with a generous decant, this organic Barolo has the structure and pedigree to reward patient cellaring through the 2040s and beyond.
