Henri Delagrange Volnay Vieilles Vignes is a graceful and finely structured Pinot Noir from one of the most elegant villages in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune. Sourced from old vines—many over 50 years of age—this cuvée captures the soft floral perfume, silky texture, and quiet depth that define classic Volnay.
The Delagrange family has been making wine in Burgundy for generations, with current winemaker Didier Delagrange carrying on the tradition from their domaine based in Volnay. The Vieilles Vignes bottling is drawn from prime hillside parcels, where shallow limestone-clay soils and low-yielding old vines give concentrated fruit with natural lift and finesse.
In the cellar, the approach is traditional and hands-off. Grapes are hand harvested and sorted, then fermented with indigenous yeasts in small open vats. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, around one-third new, to gently frame the fruit and bring subtle spice and structure without overshadowing the purity of the vineyard.
On the nose, the wine opens with red cherry, wild strawberry, rose petal, and hints of forest floor and warm spice. The palate is silky and layered with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, elegant finish. There’s restraint and poise here, but also quiet power and complexity that will reward time in the cellar.
Henri Delagrange Volnay Vieilles Vignes is a perfect pairing with duck breast, mushroom dishes, or simply served with good conversation and a little patience in the glass.
