Le Vigne di Eli Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana offers cherry, spice and volcanic minerality with silky tannins and Etna finesse.
Le Vigne di Eli is the heartfelt project of Marco de Grazia, founder of Tenuta delle Terre Nere and one of the pioneers responsible for Etna's rise to international acclaim. Created in memory of his brother Elio, the estate focuses on exceptional single vineyards, producing small quantities of wine that faithfully express the individuality of Mount Etna's historic contrade.
Calderara Sottana is one of Etna's most revered vineyards, lying on the mountain's northern slopes where ancient lava flows, volcanic ash and old bush vines produce Nerello Mascalese of extraordinary finesse and complexity. The combination of high altitude, cooling mountain breezes and black volcanic soils gives the wine remarkable perfume, mineral precision and outstanding ageing potential.
The colour is a brilliant ruby red with youthful garnet highlights. Aromas of wild cherry, raspberry and blood orange are layered with rose petals, dried herbs, sweet spice and smoky volcanic notes. The palate is elegant yet deeply concentrated, combining vibrant red fruits with finely woven tannins and fresh acidity. Layers of crushed stone, liquorice and savoury herbs emerge through the long, persistent finish, capturing the unmistakable character of this celebrated Etna cru.
A superb partner for roast duck, grilled lamb cutlets, porcini mushroom risotto, chargrilled tuna or aged Pecorino. Enjoy with a generous decant today or cellar confidently over the next fifteen years as the wine develops even greater complexity.
