2021 Longview The Piece Shiraz, Adelaide Hills

Inky, vanilla aromas slowly give way to blackberry jam, coffee and licorice notes. A lot is going on but it's quite insular in its youth. The palate is a riot of flavour, echoing the nose. There's great intensity yet surprisingly it remains light on its feet and flows nicely across the palate. There's a freshness and purity to the fruit that ensures it will age nicely. This is classy, but its best is yet to come, even though the tannins are nicely silty and fine. Drink to 2035.

From the parish of Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills. This shows off elegance and refinement, a sense of understatement yet is medium weight. Lots of forest berry, spice and dried herb characters and a mellow evenness overall. It slips over the palate nicely, shaped well with fine, satiny tannins, draws long and to a fine, gently spicy point. No hair out of place, charisma plus, layers to the varied fruit, spice and faint graphite-minerally elements with just-so seasoning of oak. There's some power underlying too. Does the variety justice from its place. Drink to 2035.

Longview’s The Piece Project was launched in 2011 to annually invite four street artists to create murals live in front of a massive crowd.
