This wine pours with an appropriate vibrant-garnet colour. So tense and fine; a medium-weight red of cranberry, rosehip tea and woody spices, with cola, just-ripe raspberry and fennel in tow. So very succulent, great length, amazing fine-grained tannin profile and a general sense of freshness. It feels so legit, so good to drink, serious but with such high drinkability. Awesome.

Longview Saturnus Nebbiolo from the Adelaide Hills is a bold yet finely structured take on this noble Italian variety, reimagined in cool-climate South Australia. Named after the Roman god of time and harvest, Saturnus is an apt reference for a grape like Nebbiolo, which demands patience in both the vineyard and the cellar to reveal its true character.

Longview Vineyard, located near Macclesfield in the southern Adelaide Hills, benefits from high elevation, cool nights and ancient soils—ideal conditions for growing Nebbiolo with clarity and aromatic lift. The fruit is hand harvested, gently fermented, and matured in seasoned French oak, allowing the variety’s natural tannin and perfume to take centre stage.

In the glass, Saturnus offers classic Nebbiolo traits of sour cherry, dried rose, orange peel and subtle tar, layered with sweet spice and an earthy, herbal edge. The palate is medium bodied but firmly structured, with powdery tannins, bright acidity and a savoury finish that lingers.

Pair it with duck confit, truffle risotto, roast game birds or aged sheep’s cheese. Decanting is recommended when young, but it will cellar gracefully for 8 to 12 years.
