It’s like crunching straight into a Granny Smith apple. There’s lime there too, whispered with fruit sweetness, and notes of hay, grapefruit, florals and herbs, though it’s the apple character that drives it. At least part of this wine spent time in oak and it’s slipped with texture as a result, though it’s a minor element; the wine still cuts on through, like the glimmer of a sunrise on water, and finishes long.

Meadowbank's Riesling vines (mostly Geisenheim 198 clone) are spread across two sites, one planted in 1974 and the other in 2005. This juicy and spine-tingling Riesling was hand-picked from these sandy, north-facing slopes, whole-cluster pressed and naturally fermented (50% in stainless steel for freshness, and 50% wild-fermented in old French barriques for texture). Both parcels were matured on their lees for three months before blending and bottling without fining. Winemaker Peter Dredge describes 2021 was an interesting vintage, characterised by very light yields but with excellent flavour intensity. Bottled without fining.
