2022 Mitolo Jester Malbec, McLaren Vale

From the warm coastal vineyards of McLaren Vale comes a Malbec that highlights both richness and approachability. Mitolo Wines was founded in 1999 by Frank Mitolo in partnership with renowned Barossa winemaker Ben Glaetzer, combining Italian heritage with South Australian vineyard character. The Jester range represents the vibrant, fruit driven side of the Mitolo portfolio, crafted from carefully selected McLaren Vale fruit grown on the region’s red brown earth and sandy soils. Cooling breezes from Gulf St Vincent help preserve freshness while allowing full flavour development.

Deep crimson with vibrant purple hues, the aromatics are generous and expressive. Blackberry, dark plum and blueberry rise from the glass alongside hints of violet, cocoa and subtle spice. There is a gentle savoury undertone that adds depth to the ripe fruit.

On the palate it is medium to full bodied and beautifully rounded. Dark berry fruit sits at the centre, supported by soft tannins and balanced acidity that keep the wine lively. Notes of chocolate, spice and discreet oak add complexity through the mid palate, leading to a smooth, persistent finish with lingering plum and black cherry.
