Perched just above the village, Les Clous tends to show a slightly tighter, more mineral side of Meursault, and Olivier Leflaive handles it with that trademark sense of control. Drawing from these higher slope parcels, the aim is clarity and line first, letting the site bring freshness to a style often known for richness.
The 2022 vintage adds a little extra generosity without losing that edge. Aromatics open with ripe white peach and nectarine, layered with lemon curd and citrus peel. There is a classic Meursault signature building underneath, toasted almond, hazelnut and a gentle buttery note, alongside a stony, almost chalky lift that keeps everything in check.
On the palate it is medium to full bodied with a textured, flowing feel, but there is a firm line of acidity running through it. Stone fruit and citrus carry the core, supported by subtle oak that adds spice and depth rather than weight. The finish is long and composed, with a savoury, nutty edge and a clean mineral line that tightens things up.
Olivier Leflaive’s approach here is all about balance, careful élevage and precise handling, allowing the vineyard character to sit front and centre.
This is a brilliant match for seafood with a bit of richness. Think grilled lobster with lemon butter, seared scallops with a light beurre noisette, or a whole roast fish with fennel and herbs. It also works beautifully with dishes like crab linguine, a savoury leek tart, or crispy potatoes with garlic and rosemary, where the wine’s texture and acidity keep everything in line.
Drinking beautifully now, it will evolve over the next eight to twelve years, building more honeyed, nutty complexity while holding its structure.
