2023 Chateau de Fuisse Mâcon-Villages, Burgundy

This comes from three parcels, two of which lie on the limestone soils near the distinctive Solutré rock bringing a tension and freshness to the wine, and the third on a richer clay site near Pouilly bringing density. It has been vinified in stainless steel only and has wonderful purity and depth of fruit, packed full of white peach aromatics culminating in a long, satisfying finish with a hint of chalk.

Château de Fuissé Mâcon-Villages is a fresh and vibrant Chardonnay from Burgundy’s Mâconnais region, crafted by one of the area's most respected producers. Château de Fuissé, a historic family-run estate dating back to 1604, is renowned for its expertise in Chardonnay, particularly in Pouilly-Fuissé. This Mâcon-Villages cuvée showcases the purity and approachability of the region’s wines, offering a beautifully balanced expression of fruit, minerality, and freshness.

Pale straw in color, the nose is bright and inviting, with aromas of ripe pear, white peach, and citrus zest, complemented by delicate floral notes and a hint of crushed stone. The palate is crisp and lively, delivering flavors of green apple, lemon curd, and honeysuckle, underpinned by a fine mineral edge and refreshing acidity. A touch of creaminess from lees aging adds subtle texture, leading to a clean, elegant finish with lingering citrus and saline notes.

This Mâcon-Villages is an excellent food wine, pairing effortlessly with grilled seafood, roast chicken, or fresh salads with citrus vinaigrette. Its vibrant acidity and mineral backbone also complement soft cheeses like goat cheese or Comté, as well as classic Burgundian dishes such as gougères.
