Sitting on the south side of a small valley, its exposition looks northeast, facing the vineyard of Douby. Bouland farms a tiny parcel of 70-year-old vines, just enough to fill a single large cask (a youngish Rousseau foudre in this case). The soils here are predominantly granitic sand—although they run deeper than in Bellevue and Corcelette—providing Bouland with a fleshier and highly aromatic Morgon to add to the range. In Beaujolais terms, it is profoundly deep, rolling out in palate-staining layers of spice-infused blueberry and blackberry fruit suffused with more smoked meat and dark, slaty mineral notes. Yet, for all its power and mouthfilling texture, it has real nuance, mineral lift and verve.
The Morgon Pré Jourdan is made from organically farmed vineyards located in the heart of the Morgon appellation. The grapes are hand-harvested to ensure the highest quality, with fermentation occurring naturally using indigenous yeasts. Bouland’s minimal intervention winemaking style allows the fruit to shine, with little manipulation in the winery, letting the terroir speak through in the final wine. The wine is aged in older barrels to preserve the purity of the fruit and allow it to develop complexity without imparting overwhelming oak flavors.
On the nose, Daniel Bouland Pré Jourdan Organic Morgon offers aromas of ripe red berries such as cherry, raspberry, and blackberry, along with subtle floral notes and hints of earthiness. The palate is smooth and silky, with rich flavors of dark fruit, a touch of spice, and a vibrant acidity that gives the wine freshness and balance. The organic farming practices contribute to a sense of purity and expressiveness in the wine, which finishes with fine tannins and a lingering fruit character.
This Morgon is a versatile wine that pairs beautifully with a wide range of dishes. It is an excellent match for roasted meats, particularly pork, duck, and lamb, as well as charcuterie, grilled vegetables, and creamy cheeses. Its bright acidity and fruit-forward style also make it a great wine to enjoy on its own or with lighter fare.
