Denis Mortet Mes Cinq Terroirs offers vibrant cherry fruit, silky texture and refined Gevrey Chambertin depth and complexity.
40% whole bunch vinification, 20% new wood. More crimson than ruby. The bouquet has a deeper darker style of fruit, cherry-raspberry rather than strawberry, slightly firmer tannins before the rich deep fruit returns behind. The acidity is entirely folded in. A notably long finish. Great stuff! Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Nov 2024.

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Cinq Terroirs, from parcels in the north of the appellation, is matured in one- to three-year-old barrels, Mortet regaling the latter as something that enhances the wines by lessening the wood impact. It has a very well-defined bouquet with raspberry and crushed strawberry fruit, the one-third whole bunch imparting light white-peppery scents. The palate is well balanced with a sharp entry—a more angular Gevrey with plenty of spice on the finish. Superb.

Domaine Denis Mortet is one of Burgundy's most respected estates, renowned for producing Pinot Noir of extraordinary precision, depth and longevity. Founded by the late Denis Mortet and now led by his son Arnaud Mortet, the domaine has become a benchmark for Gevrey Chambertin. Through meticulous vineyard work and sensitive winemaking, the family crafts wines that capture the unique character of Burgundy's greatest terroirs while maintaining an unmistakable house style of purity and refinement.
Mes Cinq Terroirs is sourced from five carefully selected vineyard parcels across Gevrey Chambertin, each contributing its own personality to the blend. The combination of old vines, limestone rich soils and excellent exposures creates a wine that beautifully reflects the power and elegance of this celebrated village. The 2023 vintage delivered fruit with superb balance and aromatic detail, resulting in a wine of both immediate appeal and impressive ageing potential.
Bright ruby red in colour, the bouquet is intensely aromatic, revealing layers of wild cherry, raspberry and redcurrant alongside notes of rose petal, violet and subtle spice. As the wine opens, hints of forest floor, cedar and crushed stone emerge, adding complexity and intrigue. The palate is silky and beautifully structured, combining vibrant red berry fruits with savoury earthy nuances and finely woven tannins. Fresh acidity provides lift and precision, while the finish is long, graceful and wonderfully expressive, lingering with spice, mineral notes and floral perfume.
A magnificent match for duck breast, roast quail, beef bourguignon, mushroom pithivier or truffle infused pasta dishes. While already captivating with a decant, this is a wine that will reward patience, evolving beautifully over the next fifteen years and beyond.
