Just two barrels. Lemon yellow. A light reduction and some oak, light sandy clay, dusty almost. More discreet, a pure white fruit, with some generosity of flesh appearing towards the back of the palate, then a clean long finish. More persistent. Drink from 2026-2028. Tasted Nov 2024
89 points Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
Camille Thiriet is one of Burgundy’s most exciting younger growers, making wines that have quickly developed a loyal following among collectors and Pinot Noir enthusiasts. After gaining experience with Nicolas Potel at Domaine de Bellene, she established her own venture in 2016 alongside Canadian winemaker Matt Chittick. Working from Comblanchien, just south of Nuits Saint Georges, Camille has built a small domaine around carefully chosen vineyards and a gentle approach in the cellar. En La Place is a wonderful example of her ability to turn a humble Bourgogne appellation into something with genuine personality.
The 2023 vintage was warm and generous, producing ripe fruit with plenty of charm and a little more flesh than the cooler 2024. En La Place is a named vineyard bottling, allowing Camille to explore the character of an individual parcel rather than relying on a broader regional blend. Careful extraction and restrained oak keep the fruit fresh and fragrant, with the wine leaning towards juicy red berries, floral perfume and subtle savoury complexity. It is an inviting Pinot Noir that has enough substance to reward a little patience but certainly does not demand it.
Clear ruby with red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, followed by violet and a splash of blood orange. Clove, black tea and a little woodland earth emerge as the wine opens. The palate is silky and medium bodied, with succulent red fruit framed by lively acidity and fine, supple tannins. Cherry and raspberry carry through to orange peel, delicate spice and a lightly earthy finish. There is a lovely combination of generosity and freshness, making it difficult to resist another glass.
Duck and mushroom dumplings would be delicious alongside, while grilled tuna with sesame, porcini and Comté tart, roast quail with lentils or miso glazed eggplant would all suit its delicate savoury character. Serve just below room temperature in a generous Burgundy glass and let the aromas develop.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2033.
