Winemaker Michael Kerrigan always sends an informative note: this his sentimentally favourite off 50-year-old vines with ’23 representing the 17th vintage. The gist is to make it 'minerally rather than fruity, lemony rather than tropical and with a real acid pith', and that has been achieved. Savoury, complex, textural, tight, and if anything, a bit more fruit weight wouldn’t go astray.

Hay Shed Hill Block 1 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc Margaret River is a vibrant single vineyard SBS from one of the region’s most consistent boutique producers. Hay Shed Hill was established in 1973 in the Wilyabrup subregion, placing it among Margaret River’s early pioneers. Today the estate is led by the Miles family with winemaking guided by Michael Kerrigan, whose focus is precision, balance and regional integrity. Block 1 refers to one of the original vineyard parcels, planted on gravelly loam soils that benefit from Margaret River’s maritime climate and long, even ripening season.

Pale straw with bright green highlights, the aromatics are lively and layered. Passionfruit, lime zest and guava rise from the glass, intertwined with fresh cut grass and a subtle herbal edge. The Semillon component brings citrus blossom and a gentle lemon pith nuance that adds structure and lift.

On the palate the wine is crisp and refreshing, medium bodied with impressive clarity. Tropical fruit and vibrant citrus glide across a backbone of natural acidity, while the Semillon adds texture and length through the mid palate. There is a clean mineral line and a dry, mouthwatering finish that captures the classic Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc Semillon style of freshness with refinement.

Pair with freshly shucked oysters, grilled prawns, Thai green curry, goat cheese with herbs or pan fried whiting with lemon. It is designed for enjoyment in its youth over the next three to five years, showcasing bright fruit and coastal energy at its best.
