Jean-Paul et Charly Thévenet Régnié En Voiture Simone is not your average Beaujolais, it’s wild-hearted, organically farmed, and packed with character that reflects both its old vines and the fearless energy of the father-son duo behind it. Coming from the cru village of Régnié, one of the lesser-known but increasingly exciting appellations in Beaujolais, this wine is juicy, earthy, and unapologetically expressive.
The Thévenet family is part of Beaujolais royalty. Jean-Paul was one of the original “Gang of Four” natural winemakers in Morgon, inspired by Jules Chauvet, and now his son Charly is carrying on that legacy while adding his own style and flair. Together, they farm their vineyards organically, no herbicides, no pesticides, just healthy soils and low yields from old Gamay vines rooted in pink granite.
En Voiture Simone (a playful French phrase that loosely translates to "Let's hit the road!") is made with the same minimal-intervention philosophy they apply to all their wines. Fruit is hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts via semi-carbonic maceration, and aged in large old foudres. No fining, no filtration, and minimal sulphur at bottling.
In the glass, it's vibrant and full of personality. Aromas of wild strawberry, cranberry, black cherry, and violet burst from the glass, grounded by notes of wet stone, dried herbs, and subtle spice. The palate is silky and energetic, with juicy acidity, gentle tannins, and that classic granitic crunch that makes Régnié so compelling.
This is soulful, small-batch Beaujolais with edge and purpose—perfect with charcuterie, grilled duck, or a wedge of aged Comté. It’s fun, but far from simple.
