Another wine from the portfolio which provides cracking value, this Cabernet has twelve months maturation in older puncheons. The colour is a dark maroon, while the nose reveals notes of chocolate, tobacco leaves, dry herbs, blackcurrants, charcuterie, truffles, animal skins and woodsmoke. A wine of good focus with a lingering finish, it maintains its intensity for the full journey, through to pleasingly sleek tannins. Enjoy for the next eight to ten years. Drink 2025 to 2035.

Blue fruits, purple fruits, all the mulberry, blueberry, plum, with light green herb notes, mintiness, red capsicum and black pepper, dosed up with clove and cinnamon on top. Quite sinewy, taut and firm through the finish; up front more juicy and bright. Charming elements here. A wine of ease and accessibility. Drink 2024 to 2030.

Cool-climate Adelaide Hills Cabernet. High-end red fruits, subtle red currant and brick-dust notes. Medium-bodied palate, subtle oak, fine tannins. Medium-term or current drinking. Drink 2025 to 2033.

The Saturno family has been at the helm of Longview Vineyard since 2007, building on the estate's reputation as one of the Adelaide Hills' most awarded single vineyard producers. The 65-hectare property at Macclesfield sits on the south-eastern ridge of the Mount Lofty Ranges, with northern slopes ripening the red varieties consistently while cooling afternoon breezes from the coast preserve freshness and natural acidity.
The Devil’s Elbow takes its name from a notorious hairpin corner on the old road to the Adelaide Hills — a wine, like the road, that rewards those willing to take the journey. Estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon, matured for 12 months in seasoned French oak puncheons, allowing the variety and site to speak without oak dominating.
The 2023 shows the cool-climate Adelaide Hills Cabernet character at its most expressive. Blackcurrant, mulberry and blue fruit on the nose, with tobacco leaf, dry herbs, chocolate and a savoury earthiness adding complexity and depth. The palate is focused and well structured, with sleek, fine tannins and a long, composed finish.
Charming and accessible now, but should keep welll for a cuple of years. Would be really nice with a warming bowl of pasta dressed with a creamy mushroom sauce.
