The bouquet assembles exotic fruits, mango, Canteloupe melon, pineapple, ripe peach, shows plenty, with Roussanne typicity. The palate has a well juiced opening, is up and running, with some sun rays, continues well, a little oak sweetness in it. It will give pretty instant pleasure.
John Livingstone-Learmonth Drink Rhone
Pierre Gaillard Saint-Joseph Blanc is a beautifully expressive white from the granitic hillsides of the Northern Rhône. Made primarily from Marsanne with a smaller portion of Roussanne, this wine is a showcase of balance, texture and aromatic complexity. Grown on steep, terraced vineyards around Malleval in the northern part of the appellation, the fruit benefits from excellent sun exposure and cool nights that help preserve freshness and detail.
Pierre Gaillard, a former viticulturist for Guigal and now a leading voice in the Northern Rhône, is known for his meticulous vineyard work and sensitive winemaking. The grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed, and fermented in a mix of stainless steel and oak barrels, including some new oak to add structure without overwhelming the fruit. Lees stirring brings weight and depth to the palate.
This wine opens with lifted aromas of white flowers, stone fruit, citrus oil and almond cream, layered with hints of wild honey and subtle spice. The palate is round and textural yet finely balanced, delivering flavours of nectarine, pear, lemon curd and crushed rock. It finishes long and savoury, with a gentle grip that encourages food pairing.
Pair with roast chicken with tarragon and lemon, lobster with brown butter, or a creamy mushroom vol-au-vent. Aged Comté or a soft washed rind cheese also complement the wine’s rich texture. Drink now for its freshness or cellar for 5 to 8 years to enjoy its evolution toward nuttier, more honeyed notes.
