Rosily Merlot Organic is a quietly confident expression of Margaret River, coming from one of the region’s early pioneering estates. Rosily was established in the late 1970s by Dr Mark Cullity, a key figure in Margaret River’s formative years, and the vineyard has long been recognised for thoughtful farming and a deep respect for the land. The move to organic viticulture is a natural extension of that philosophy.
The vineyards sit on classic Margaret River gravelly loam over clay, soils that are ideally suited to Merlot when yields are kept in check. The strong maritime influence brings cooling afternoon breezes, allowing the fruit to ripen evenly while retaining freshness and fine tannin structure. Merlot here is savoury, elegant and structured rather than soft or jammy.
In the glass, Rosily Organic Merlot shows plum, dark cherry and blackberry, layered with bay leaf, cedar and gentle earthy notes. The palate is medium bodied and finely shaped, with supple tannins, balanced acidity and a savoury finish that lingers quietly. It is a composed, food friendly style that speaks clearly of place.
This is a versatile wine at the table. Roast lamb, beef with herbs, mushroom based dishes, roast vegetables or aged cheddar all sit comfortably alongside it. The balance makes it especially well suited to meals rather than sipping alone.
Rosily Merlot Organic is drinking beautifully now but will continue to develop over five to eight years, gaining further complexity and softness with time. It is a reminder of how good Merlot can be in Margaret River when grown with care and made with restraint.
