Schloss Lieser Estate Riesling Kabinett is one of the great expressions of classic Mosel style, coming from the steep slate vineyards that surround the historic village of Lieser. These dramatic slopes of blue and grey Devonian slate lie right above the winding Mosel River, creating a unique mesoclimate where reflected sunlight and stored heat allow Riesling to ripen slowly while preserving its electric acidity. Thomas Haag at Schloss Lieser is a master of this style, farming old vines by hand and picking in multiple passes to capture fruit at perfect balance. Kabinett is all about finesse and freshness rather than weight, and in Mosel it has long been considered one of the most food friendly and age worthy styles of Riesling in the world.
In the glass it shows a pale gold colour, opening with aromas of lime blossom, green apple, white peach and a gentle slate driven smokiness. The palate is delicately sweet yet feather light, layering citrus, crisp orchard fruit and a whisper of honey over a vibrant, mouthwatering line of acidity that keeps everything bright and lifted. It is magical with spicy Asian dishes, Thai salads, sushi, roast pork and soft cheeses, and it also has the structure to age gracefully for ten to fifteen years, gaining more honeyed, toasty and savoury notes while keeping its fresh Mosel energy.
