Tomfoolery Black & Blue Shiraz from the Barossa Valley is a bold, modern expression of old-vine Shiraz that balances raw power with bright fruit and savoury complexity. Crafted from low-yielding vineyards in both the Barossa and Eden Valleys, this wine channels the richness typical of the region while adding a touch of finesse through elevation, careful handling and thoughtful winemaking.

The fruit is picked from dry-grown vines aged over 80 years, then wild fermented in small open-top fermenters. It sees extended maceration to build structure and depth before being matured in seasoned French oak for 12 to 18 months. The style is unashamedly Barossa, but with a fresher, lifted profile that reflects a hands-off, minimalist approach.

On the nose it shows black cherry, blueberry, dark plum and liquorice, backed by notes of earth, baking spices, cocoa and dried herbs. The palate is full bodied and supple, with plush dark fruit at the core, framed by fine tannins and a savoury, mineral edge. There’s a vibrant acidity that adds lift and drive through the finish.

Food pairing: excellent with barbecued lamb, braised short ribs, black pepper beef, or grilled eggplant with miso glaze. Also works well with smoky cheeses or mushroom and lentil stew.

Cellar potential: approachable now with a decant, but will evolve gracefully over 8 to 12 years, gaining more spice, leather and earthy complexity.
