Mid lemon, yellow fruit, quite high acidity, perhaps the middle of the palate could have been fleshed a little more. Drink from 2025-2027. Tasted Oct 2024.
87 points Jasper Morris MW Inside Burgundy
Les Grandes Coutures pulls from well sited parcels around Meursault, and Xavier Monnot treats it like a serious wine rather than a simple Bourgogne Blanc. With his shift toward a more terroir focused, restrained style, this cuvée consistently shows more detail and precision than the label suggests.
The 2023 vintage is bright and finely balanced. Aromatics open with pear, white peach and lemon zest, with a touch of grapefruit adding tension. There is a subtle savoury layer, almond, a hint of spice and a faint flinty note that gives the wine shape.
On the palate it sits in the medium bodied range with a smooth, lightly rounded texture, but there is a clear line of acidity running through it. Stone fruit and citrus form the core, supported by restrained oak that adds depth without weight. The finish is clean and mineral, with a lightly savoury, lingering edge.
Monnot’s winemaking is measured and precise, careful pressing and thoughtful élevage allowing the vineyard character to come through while keeping the wine accessible.
This is a brilliant match for seafood and lighter dishes. Think grilled prawns with lemon and garlic, spaghetti vongole, or a simple fish with herbs. It also works beautifully with dishes like crab linguine, zucchini fritters or crispy potatoes with rosemary and aioli, where the wine’s freshness and texture lift everything.
Drinking beautifully now for its freshness and clarity, it will continue to evolve over the next five to seven years, picking up a little more nutty complexity while holding its balance.
