From the eastern shores of Lake Garda comes a vibrant, food friendly red that reflects the lighter side of Veneto. Corte Giara is the modern label created by the Allegrini family, one of Valpolicella’s most historic names, with roots dating back to the sixteenth century. While Allegrini is famed for Amarone and powerful Valpolicella, Corte Giara focuses on freshness and approachability, sourcing fruit from carefully selected vineyards across Veneto. Bardolino, planted on glacial and morainic soils around Lake Garda, benefits from the lake’s moderating influence, producing reds that are bright, aromatic and beautifully balanced.
Light ruby in colour with youthful crimson hues, the nose is lifted and lively. Red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry lead, followed by hints of violet, white pepper and dried herbs. There is a subtle freshness and gentle spice that signal its cool lakeside origins.
On the palate it is light to medium bodied, juicy and refreshing. Red berry fruit flows across soft tannins and crisp natural acidity, making it immediately drinkable and versatile at the table. A faint savoury note of almond and herbs appears on the finish, a hallmark of traditional Bardolino. It is a red that favours elegance and vibrancy over weight.
Serve lightly chilled with antipasto, wood fired pizza, grilled chicken, pasta with tomato and basil or charcuterie. Best enjoyed in its youth over the next three to five years to capture its brightness and charm.
