2024 Bouchard Aîne & Fils Chablis, Burgundy

Founded back in 1750, the house carries centuries of Burgundian history, and while they work across the region, their Chablis keeps its focus firmly on what makes this corner of northern Burgundy so compelling, limestone soils, cool climate and a natural tension that Chardonnay wears beautifully.

The 2024 vintage shows a bright, energetic profile. Citrus leads the way, lemon zest and green apple, followed by a subtle note of white peach. There is a clean, stony edge running underneath, that classic Chablis signature that feels like crushed shells and wet limestone after rain. Oak influence is minimal, letting the fruit and site speak clearly.

It feels crisp and precise across the palate, with a fine line of acidity giving it drive and shape. Flavours stay in the citrus and orchard fruit spectrum, finishing dry and refreshing with that gentle saline flick that makes you want another sip. It is all about clarity and balance rather than richness.

This is made for the table. Freshly shucked oysters are the obvious match, but it also shines with grilled prawns, sushi, or a simple roast chicken with lemon and herbs. Even a plate of goat’s cheese with a drizzle of honey works beautifully, the acidity cutting through while the fruit brings a little lift.

Best enjoyed young while that freshness is front and centre, though a few years in bottle will soften the edges and bring a touch more roundness and subtle complexity.
