92 Points, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
Light straw with aromas of citrus, white peach and nectarine and hints of cinnamon, clover blossom, roast cashews, crème fraîche, almond meal and stone, with just a suggestion of struck flint. Plenty of flavoursome citrus and stone fruits on the palate, with a lovely stony cadence and a light, textural tone right on the fade out.
Bream Creek has built a strong reputation for producing elegant, structured wines with excellent aging potential. The estate, established in 1974, benefits from the cooling breezes off the Tasman Sea, which help retain natural acidity and enhance the depth of flavor in the fruit.
Pale gold in color, the nose is bright and expressive, offering aromas of white peach, lemon zest, and green apple, with underlying notes of cashew, flinty minerality, and a subtle hint of toasted oak. The palate is beautifully layered, balancing vibrant citrus and nectarine flavors with a creamy mid-palate texture from time on lees. A fine acid backbone and restrained oak influence provide freshness and structure, leading to a long, elegant finish with lingering notes of brioche and crushed stone.
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with seared scallops, grilled salmon, or roast chicken with lemon and thyme. Its bright acidity and minerality also make it a great match for creamy seafood pasta, truffle risotto, or soft cheeses like Brie and Comté. While highly enjoyable in its youth, it also has the potential to evolve over the next 5–8 years, gaining further complexity and depth.
