All estate vines, averaging 50 years; matured in French oak, 15% new. That new oak percentage has been dropping over the last few years, whereas now it sits well within the wine, though imparting subtle vanilla and spice. This is a little fuller than the elegant ’23, but very much still riffing on red fruits, with some wild blackberry and black cherry joining the chorus. There’s a backdrop of warm bushland scents, some bay and dry red earth. It’s an ever-reliable bottling in good form. Drink to 2032.

92 points Marcus Ellis for Halliday Wine Companion, March 2026

About this wine

McLaren Vale received nearly twice the average June rainfall, providing good soil moisture ahead of drier and warmer weather leading to the start of the 2024 season. A mild spring led to early flowering, though November/December had well above average rainfall leading to the necessity of rigorous vineyard management. The vintage period was very dry and provided ideal ripening conditions and provided fruit with strong varietal expressions across all red varieties.

About this producer

Coriole was founded in 1967 by Hugh and Molly Lloyd after purchasing their Chaffeys Road property in McLaren Vale with its existing Shiraz vineyard. Today, the second and third-generation family members are the caretakers of a much-enlarged viticultural heritage, with 25 vineyard sites across Blewitt Springs, Willunga and McLaren Flat, and vines up to 90 years old.
