Camille Thiriet is making some of the most engaging wines to emerge from Burgundy’s new generation. After working with Nicolas Potel at Domaine de Bellene, she established her own project in 2016 alongside Canadian winemaker Matt Chittick. Based in Comblanchien, just south of Nuits Saint Georges, the domaine has grown from a tiny négociant venture into a collection of carefully managed vineyards. Production remains small, and Camille’s thoughtful approach to vineyard work and restrained winemaking has made her bottles increasingly sought after.

En La Place is a named parcel Bourgogne Blanc, giving this regional Chardonnay a more individual identity than a conventional blended Bourgogne. The 2024 growing season was cool and challenging, with rain and disease pressure reducing yields across much of Burgundy. Those conditions also favoured a fresher, more delicate expression of Chardonnay where fruit reached suitable ripeness. Rather than chasing richness, the appeal here is the balance between citrus, gentle texture and the savoury mineral character that makes good white Burgundy so compelling.

Pale straw with lemon, crisp pear and white peach, followed by grapefruit and delicate citrus blossom. Fresh almond and a little hazelnut add depth, with subtle fennel and a faint flinty note emerging as it opens. The palate is finely textured, carrying orchard fruit through a bright line of acidity. There is enough softness through the middle to give the wine substance, while lemon peel, almond and a gently saline edge keep the finish fresh and persistent.

Grilled scallops with lemon butter would be delicious alongside, while crab linguine, roast John Dory with fennel, leek and Comté tart or cauliflower with brown butter and hazelnuts would all make excellent company. Cellaring: Drink now to 2033.
