The 2024 Pommard Village has a light and peppery nose thanks to the 15% whole cluster, cohesive with blackberry and raspberry fruit and a hint of black tea that emerges with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins for a Village Cru, well balanced, the judicious use of stems adding nuance and more complexity on the finish. This is definitely worth seeking out. Drink: 2028 - 2037

Domaine Rossignol-Février is a family estate based in Volnay, in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, with a long history of producing beautifully traditional Pinot Noir. Their Pommard captures the more robust, earthy side of Burgundy, combining the appellation's characteristic structure with the finesse and fragrant fruit that make great Pinot Noir so appealing.
Pommard lies just south of Beaune, where iron rich clay and limestone soils produce reds with greater depth and firmer tannins than neighbouring Volnay. The 2024 vintage favoured freshness and elegance, giving this wine a lovely balance of vibrant fruit, savoury character and fine structure.
Bright ruby red with garnet reflections. Morello cherry, wild raspberry and red plum mingle with violet, dried rose petals and a hint of forest floor. The palate is medium bodied and beautifully structured, with juicy red fruit, lively acidity and firm, finely textured tannins. Notes of earthy spice, dried thyme and subtle oak carry through a long, savoury finish.
Try it with duck breast and cherry jus, wild mushroom and lentil pie, or roasted beetroot with thyme and aged Gruyère. Its earthy character also makes it a terrific match for pork tenderloin with mustard and mushrooms.
Cellaring: Drink 2027 to 2036. A few years in the cellar should soften the tannins and reveal greater earthy complexity.
