2024 Domaine Rossignol-Février Robardelle Volnay 1er Cru, Burgundy

The 2024 Volnay Robardelle 1er Cru is more expressive and harmonious than the Carelle Sous La Chapelle, just a little brighter although the fruit profile is quite similar. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black and red fruit, more mellow and fleshier than the other cuvées and a tad more weight on the back end. This is a fine follow-up to the previous vintage. Domaine Rossignol-Février is a family estate in Volnay, where generations of winemaking have shaped an intimate understanding of the Côte de Beaune's elegant Pinot Noir. Their small collection of wines celebrates the village's fragrant, finely textured character, with individual vineyards revealing subtle differences in structure and personality. Robardelle is a particularly appealing Premier Cru, combining Volnay's graceful perfume with impressive depth.

The 2024 comes from the Robardelle Premier Cru vineyard, where limestone and clay soils contribute to Pinot Noir's delicate fruit and fine structure. The vintage's cooler growing conditions favour freshness and aromatic detail, giving the wine a lovely balance of concentration and elegance.

Bright ruby red with translucent garnet edges. Ripe red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry mingle with violet, dried rose petals and a hint of sweet spice. The palate is supple yet beautifully structured, with juicy red fruit, lively acidity and fine, persistent tannins. Notes of forest floor, crushed herbs and subtle earthy spice carry through a long, fragrant finish.

Try it with duck breast and sour cherry sauce, wild mushroom and chestnut pithivier, or roasted beetroot with hazelnuts and aged Gruyère. Its delicate structure also makes it a lovely partner for pan fried ocean trout with lentils and thyme.

Cellaring: Drink 2028 to 2038. The balance of fruit, acidity and fine tannins should reward several years in the cellar.
