The 2024 Volnay Vieilles Vignes, which was completely de-stemmed, has a relatively light bouquet of wild strawberry and raspberry fruit with just a hint of rooibos and bergamot in the background. It just needs a little more vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with a bit of coarseness on the entry. Quite peppery (again despite the absence of stems, it has fine linearity in the slightly austere finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle to shave its edges. Drink: 2028 - 2037

Domaine Rossignol-Février is a family estate in Volnay, one of Burgundy's most admired villages for elegant, fragrant Pinot Noir. With generations of winemaking behind them, the family produces wines that celebrate the finesse and subtle complexity of the Côte de Beaune. Their Vieilles Vignes is a particularly appealing expression, drawing on mature vines for additional depth and character.
Volnay's limestone and clay soils are beautifully suited to Pinot Noir, producing wines renowned for their delicate perfume and silky tannins. The 2024 vintage brings a lovely sense of freshness to the old vine fruit, combining concentration with the graceful structure that makes Volnay so distinctive.
Bright ruby red with translucent garnet highlights. Ripe red cherry, wild raspberry and strawberry mingle with violet, dried rose petals and a hint of cinnamon. The palate is supple and finely textured, with juicy red berries, refreshing acidity and delicate, persistent tannins. Notes of forest floor, sweet spice and crushed herbs carry through a long, savoury finish.
Try it with roast quail and cherries, porcini mushroom and ricotta ravioli, or grilled ocean trout with lentils and fresh herbs. Its gentle structure also makes it a lovely match for roasted beetroot with hazelnuts and goat's cheese.
Cellaring: Drink 2027 to 2036. The old vine concentration and fine structure should reward several years of careful ageing.
