A full lemon yellow. The first impression is of richness rather than minerality. However, it develops enormously on the palate, striking weight, an empire of stones with a light citrus wash on the palate, an intensity of freshness, this will need very considerable ageing. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2025
94-97 points Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
The 2024 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a generous bouquet with yellow plum, jasmine, lemon curd and light white flower scents that are well defined. The palate is rounded in texture with fine weight and depth, a keen line of acidity and a long, sustained finish. Erwan Faiveley commented that this is their best white cuvée…he is right on that.
95 points Neal Martin, Vinous January 2026
The wine of the vintage,' according to technical director Jérôme Flous, 'along with the Clos de Bèze'. There is a lovely grapefruit and gooseberry aroma with hints of something richer, leading into a dense, vibrant texture that echoes on the palate. Flous describes it as 'more brilliant' because it's not facing south. The overall effect is exquisite, with a fresh, salty tang on the finish, giving a wine that will stand the test of time.
95 points Charles Curtis MW, Decanter
High on the slopes of the Hill of Corton, Corton Charlemagne produces some of Burgundy's most distinguished Chardonnay, celebrated for its extraordinary mineral character and ageing potential. Named after Emperor Charlemagne, this historic Grand Cru combines limestone rich soils with cooler hillside conditions. Domaine Faiveley, founded in 1825, remains family owned, with Erwan and Eve Faiveley at the helm and Jérôme Flous overseeing winemaking.
Brilliant pale gold with delicate green reflections. Fresh lemon, white peach and crisp pear mingle with acacia blossom, toasted almond and crushed limestone. The cooler 2024 vintage emphasises freshness and definition, with concentrated citrus fruit, vibrant acidity and a beautifully structured, chalky finish. Powerful yet remarkably elegant, with a subtle saline character and impressive persistence.
Wonderful with roasted John Dory and fennel, delicate crab ravioli with saffron, or a golden cauliflower and hazelnut tart. A magnificent white Burgundy deserving of a special occasion.
Cellaring: 2029 to 2045+. A serious Grand Cru that will reward patience with greater complexity, texture and savoury depth.
