Full-bodied red with generous, rich dark fruit
Pouring a deep, near opaque purple, this wine announces itself with highly perfumed aromas as soon as it gets into the glass. Rich, with deep layers of fruit, this is a full-bodied red with generous and bold dark fruit that drinks well on release, but with a track record that suggests it will benefit immensely form a couple of years in the bottle under good cellaring conditions.
Pouring to anything from a charcoal grill, this will keep your belly warm and happy.
More about this wine
From the dry and warm 2024 Margaret River vintage, the hand harvested fruit was fermented in smaller one- and two-tonne open fermenters with a 10% inclusion of whole bunches and hand plunged for 8-12 days. The pressed wine was matured for 12 months in French oak barriques before the wine was blended and prepared for bottling.
About this producer
The Hay Shed Hill vineyard sits in the heart of the Wilyabrup subregion of Margaret River on a property with origins as a dairy farm. The vineyard sits just five kilometres from the Indian Ocean, with a pronounced afternoon sea breeze moderating the climate well beyond what the latitude would suggest. Vines were first planted here in the early 1970s. These are predominantly dry grown across the hilly terrain, with each aspect matched to the variety it suits best. Winemaker Michael Kerrigan has led the estate since 2006 with a clear focus on wines that reflect the quality of the site.
