Pale green yellow, silver reflections. Fresh meadow herbs, white apple touch, smoky minerality. Taut, tightly woven, fine pome fruit nuances, mineral, delicately salty on the finish, a hint of honeydew melon in the aftertaste, a versatile food companion, has certain ageing potential.

In the cool, rocky vineyards of Kamptal, the Hiedler family has built a reputation for Grüner Veltliner that combines precision, energy and a deep sense of place. Based in Langenlois, one of Austria’s great white wine villages, the estate works with mineral rich soils shaped by ancient marine deposits and weathered stone, giving their wines remarkable purity and tension. The Tonmineral bottling takes its name from the clay and mineral driven terroir that defines the wine’s distinctive character.
The 2024 vintage is bright, racy and incredibly refreshing. Notes of green apple, white peach and lime zest burst from the glass alongside classic Grüner hints of white pepper, fresh herbs and crunchy pear. There is a beautiful mineral line running through the wine, bringing a stony, almost saline freshness that keeps everything taut and lively. The texture feels sleek and energetic rather than broad, with crisp acidity carrying citrus and spice notes through a long, mouthwatering finish.
This is the sort of white that absolutely loves food. Wiener schnitzel would be a classic match, though it would also shine beside fresh prawns, Vietnamese rice paper rolls or crispy zucchini fritters with yoghurt and herbs. There is enough texture to handle richer dishes too, especially anything with spice, ginger or citrus woven through it. Pop this on a sunny afternoon with a table full of snacks and the bottle tends to disappear alarmingly quickly.
