Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

Jane Eyre has forged an extraordinary reputation in Burgundy, becoming the first Australian recipient of the Négociant of the Year award from La Revue du Vin de France. Celebrated for her thoughtful, terroir focused approach, she crafts wines that express the individuality of each appellation with precision and restraint. Her Pommard Rouge is a wonderful reflection of this historic village, renowned for producing Pinot Noir of depth, structure and impressive longevity.

The 2024 vintage provided ideal conditions for beautifully balanced fruit, combining concentration with freshness and aromatic purity. Sourced from carefully selected vineyards across Pommard, the wine is gently vinified and matured with a light touch, allowing the village's limestone rich soils and naturally powerful style to take centre stage.

Deep ruby with vibrant crimson hues, the bouquet reveals aromas of black cherry, wild raspberry and ripe plum layered with violets, warm spice and subtle forest floor notes. As the wine evolves, hints of fine cedar, earthy complexity and crushed stone emerge, adding further intrigue. The palate is beautifully structured, combining concentrated dark berry fruit with silky tannins, lively acidity and a finely etched mineral backbone. Powerful yet graceful, it finishes long and refined with savoury spice and exceptional persistence.

A superb match for duck breast, roast lamb, mushroom pithivier, beef bourguignon or mature Époisses. Beautifully expressive in its youth, this elegant Pommard will continue to reward patient cellaring over the coming decade.

Cellaring: Drink now to 2038.
