There is a pleasant concentration of ripe apple and nectarine fruit aromas with an edge of floral notes and a hint of minerality on the initial attack of this charming wine. The texture is supple and silky with an almost opulent edge, but there is enough acidity to bring the wine into balance and linger on the finish. The grapes are from several parcels, gently pressed and fermented in tank on native yeasts before bottling.
90 points Charlie Curtis MW, Decanter
The Moreau family has been part of Chablis winemaking for generations, with Louis Moreau continuing the family tradition at his estate in northern Burgundy. Known for his thoughtful approach to Chardonnay and respect for the region's distinctive limestone soils, he produces wines that capture the freshness and mineral character of Chablis. Vau Ligneau is one of the appellation's quieter Premier Cru vineyards, capable of producing beautifully elegant, expressive whites.
Situated on the western side of Chablis, Vau Ligneau benefits from Kimmeridgian limestone and clay soils, which contribute to the wine's characteristic mineral edge. The 2024 reflects the vintage's cooler conditions, with lively acidity, delicate fruit and a finely balanced structure.
Pale straw yellow with bright green reflections. Lemon zest, green apple and white peach mingle with white flowers, crushed oyster shell and a hint of fresh almond. The palate is crisp and finely textured, with juicy citrus, subtle orchard fruit and a distinctly chalky character. Refreshing acidity and a gentle saline note carry through a long, clean finish.
Try it with grilled whiting and lemon, oysters with a shallot vinaigrette, or asparagus and leek tart with crème fraîche. Its mineral freshness would also be terrific with steamed crab and ginger.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2033. Lovely for its youthful freshness, with the structure to develop greater savoury complexity over time.
