This bottle practically demands Italian food: pappardelle with wild boar ragù, bistecca alla Fiorentina, fennel-flecked pork sausages, eggplant parmigiana or a proper wood-fired pizza with salami and mushrooms.
The rolling hills between Florence and Siena are home to some of Tuscany's most charming reds, and Chianti Classico remains one of Italy's great dinner table companions. Tenute Rossetti draws on the Rossetti family's winemaking heritage, which stretches back to the early twentieth century. Poggio Civetta celebrates Sangiovese grown in the historic Chianti Classico zone, where limestone rich soils, warm afternoons and cooler evenings encourage fragrant fruit, lively acidity and that unmistakable Tuscan character.
Bright ruby red with youthful garnet reflections. Juicy Morello cherry, red plum and wild raspberry mingle with violet, dried sage and a touch of earthy spice. The 2024 vintage is vibrant and approachable, with fine tannins, refreshing acidity and a gently savoury finish. There's plenty of fruit, but enough structure and herbal character to keep things interesting.
Delicious with grilled octopus and smoky tomato salsa, crispy eggplant with Parmesan and basil, or Tuscan sausages with white beans and rosemary. A proper wood fired margherita pizza would be equally welcome.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2031. Lovely in its youth, with a few years ahead for further savoury development.
