From the elevated vineyards of Orange in New South Wales, Cook’s Lot has developed a reputation for producing small batch wines that highlight the freshness and purity of this cool climate region. The vineyards sit at high altitude where warm sunny days are balanced by crisp evenings, allowing Riesling to ripen slowly while retaining its natural acidity. The Barrel Fermented Riesling offers a more textural interpretation of the variety, with careful fermentation in oak adding depth and complexity while preserving the vibrant citrus character that defines the grape.
The wine shows a pale straw colour with bright green reflections. Aromas lift with lime zest, lemon and green apple layered with delicate floral notes and hints of spice. As the wine opens further nuances of toast, almond and subtle minerality begin to emerge from the barrel fermentation. The palate is vibrant yet beautifully textured with flavours of citrus, grapefruit and crisp orchard fruit supported by lively acidity and a gentle creaminess from time in oak. The finish is long and refreshing with a balance of brightness and savoury complexity that sets this Riesling apart.
It will continue to develop nicely over the next eight to ten years and works wonderfully with fresh seafood, grilled fish, pork dishes or lightly spiced Asian cuisine.
