2025 Flametree Chardonnay, Margaret River

Flametree Chardonnay Margaret River is a refined and expressive example of premium Margaret River Chardonnay, produced by Flametree Wines, owned by the Towner family. Established in 2007, Flametree quickly gained a reputation for precision and quality, with winemaker Cliff Royle playing a pivotal role in shaping the house style. Royle’s extensive experience in Margaret River Chardonnay has helped define a wine that balances richness with tension. The maritime climate of Margaret River, moderated by the Indian Ocean, allows slow, even ripening, while gravelly loam soils over clay contribute texture and structure. The result is a Chardonnay that reflects both regional pedigree and careful craftsmanship.

Pale straw with brilliant clarity and a faint green hue, the nose is layered and inviting. White peach, nectarine and lemon zest lead, followed by grapefruit, roasted cashew and subtle flinty complexity. A gentle struck match character adds intrigue while maintaining freshness and purity.

The palate is medium to full bodied yet beautifully controlled. Stone fruit and citrus flow across a creamy mid palate shaped by thoughtful oak maturation and lees stirring. There is depth and generosity, yet a fine line of vibrant natural acidity keeps everything focused and energetic. The finish is long and mineral driven, lingering with notes of almond meal, lemon curd and delicate spice. It is classic modern Margaret River Chardonnay, combining texture, elegance and length.

This wine pairs superbly with grilled Western Australian marron, roast chicken with thyme and preserved lemon, seared scallops or pork belly with apple and fennel. It drinks beautifully now but will cellar confidently for eight to twelve years, developing further nutty, toasty complexity while retaining its structural backbone.
